People Over Power

Reflections on Employee Growth, Engagement & Commitment in the Age of Diffusion

FDR once said, “It’s a terrible thing to look over your shoulder when you are trying to lead—and find no one there.” Some may find such an outcome so sufficiently terrifying that they lead only where others wish to be led. Others return to the outdated bargain of authority and punishment within a rigid hierarchy to give their orders weight, relying on compliance rather than influence. How then, in organizations hellbent on becoming leaner, flatter, nimbler to gain competitive advantage can such timid tactics substitute for real leadership? Join us for a look at leading as an act of selfless service. Explore strategies for engaging, aligning, and sustaining commitment in dispersed, decentralized, and detached organizations where we must begin thinking of employees as volunteers, because in many ways they are, their talents having become completely portable in our fluid, virtual world. Join us to learn new tools for enhancing leadership in the ‘leaderless workplace.’ In this program, we offer an opportunity to set aside hesitancy to let go of the past to finally and fully embrace a proven methodology for creating the future. As FDR also said, “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”
