It looks terribly irreverent and fabulously funny, I know, and it's about half that.
It aspires to be Die Hard, Home Alone, and Bad Santa, but:
1. Great as he is, John Leguizamo cannot hold a candle to Alan Rickman, AND, Violent Night never quite captures the Christmasy vibe that Die Hard did;
2. The booby traps are slightly more violent (okay, deadly!) than Home Alone's, but far less creative/inventive; and
3. The acting is, in a word, lame.
Don't get me wrong, I ENJOYED THE MOVIE AND WILL SEE IT AGAIN (!), but with lower expectations next time :-)
