I have to say: I LOVED THIS DOCUMENTARY!
My goodness, it's incredible!!
I know of Tony Hawk only vaguely, as in, Oh, the skateboarder and, in recent years, The funny skateboarder who's always posting on Insta about people he meets who don't know him.
But that's it.
Like I said: vaguely.
But after seeing this doc, (A) I am blown away, and (B) I love me some Tony Hawk!
What a neat, special story.
And brilliantly told.
And yes, like Tony mentioned on Instagram the other day, "We need a Rodney Mullen documentary."
To that end, go here, where you'll find several videos featuring Mullen philosophizing. He's endlessly fascinating and equally articulate. (Among my faves are his visit with Physics Girl, A Beautiful Mind, and BEING [which includes his TED Talk at USC].)
Skateboarding. Whodathunkit? An interesting subculture all the way 'round—from language, folk heroes and myths to behaviors, mad skills, attire and attitude.
