I'm very late to this party (by five years!), but am nearly done with season one and loving it.
Yes, yes, spurts of ugliness, but on the whole it's got a nice, slow burn, and just when I thought it was simple, it got a smidge more complicated.
With 85% approval rating on IMDB, that qualifies it for "universal acclaim," so I look forward to the remainder.
Has a sort of Yellowjackets meets Kiss the Girls meets Eyes Wide Shut vibe.
