Color me pleasantly surprised!
Stupid me: I assumed every new release hitting theaters right now would be a dog, but The Outpost is pretty dang good. Definitely the exception (thus far this month).
Granted, it's no Hurt Locker, Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, Lone Survivor, or Apocalypse Now, but it's better than, say, 12 Strong or The Last Full Measure.
Moreover, it's a true story, and a powerful one at that, capturing "The Battle of Kamdesh." (You may recall Jake Tapper's book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, which also details the struggle, the losses, and the heroism of that very long, bloody, hard-fought day).
If you're into that sort of thing, or are particularly patriotic, I think it will be meaningful to you.
And I doubt that you would, but don't take any kiddos. It's wall-to-wall latrine talk and aggressive mofos. (What it lacks in thespianism, it makes up through language and brute force.) A lot of blood in this one, but that's war for ya. (Less blood, though, than featured in Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge.)
