Remarkable.
I think Robert Eggers is a genius.
Everything he touches is so dang unique. A spectacle.
The Northman is not exactly a 'pleasant' movie, but its level of precision, creativity, and quality will leave you speechless. Excellence is the word that comes to mind. And gobsmacked is how I feel after, having seen it twice now in one week.
I was transported to another world for nearly three hours, and that's a rare feat except for when surgery is about to occur.
(Speaking of surgeries, man, I love that feeling of the warm, heavy blanket they place over your freezing legs in the O.R. as the anesthesiologist leans in and says, "I want you to count backwards from 10 for me please" and then, presto-blammo, nearly a day has passed and you wake up feeling like a million bucks. Am I right, or am I right?)
p.s. If you wonder How historically accurate is "The Northman," check this out. If this doesn't earn your respect for Eggers, nothing will.
