Wow, okay, I'm gonna need some time to process this bad boy!
For starters, it's not really a movie, it's more like a two-man, two-room play. Or, it might eventually be that, on Broadway or wherever.
As I filed out, everyone was speculating about the film's meaning. It would, indeed, make for a fantastic English or Philosophy paper.
It's very well done, and Robert Eggers (The Witch) has a very unique voice. More to the point, he does a wonderful job of 'period' dialogue. Feels very rich and on-point.
As for the rest, I leave to you.
I will say—if you're looking for 'entertainment'—this isn't it. It's a hard, unpleasant film, but a head-scratcher, which at least (for puzzle reasons) makes it interesting.
The acting, by the way, is tremendous. Really great. Their descent into madness is so effective I felt pretty mad when I left ;-)
