It's a heavy-handed, suffocating, cloying affair that begs for approval and attention...and fails.
Moreover, after gritty and realistic-feeling films including Dunkirk, Hacksaw Ridge, 1917, or The Revenant—I can't swallow seeing a man clean-shaven, perfectly coiffed, and dressed to the nines when he's allegedly at war, surviving behind enemy lines, and days from a razor.
My suspension of disbelief can only suspend so far.
