My apologies for posting a review 13 months early, but it looks like they already stuck the landing, and with barely 7 out of 19 estimated production weeks under their collective utility belts!
In the same way Joaquin Phoenix did the impossible (creating a Joker every bit as iconic as Heath Ledger’s), it’s feeling very much like Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson may actually outrun the intimidatingly long and successful black shadows cast by Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale. This reboot feels gritty, surprisingly emotional, and atmospheric—à la Michael Mann or David Fincher. (Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne definitely has some Kurt Cobain as Lisbeth Salander-level trauma to sort out, so I expect this to be a character-centric piece portraying Wayne's sophomore year as Batman as opposed to some sort of FX-centric/bat-toys spectacle.)
Finally, comics' Batman is really a detective at heart anyway, so I'm pleased to see so much riddlin' goin' on.
