Shōgun is sō good ;-)
Granted, it's 10 episodes (which is a HUGE commitment in anyone's book), but I'm loving every minute hour of it!
IMDB heralds it as one of the top 10 best TV series ever made, and while I wouldn't go quite that far, it's definitely one of the best I can recall.
That puts it in Law & Order, The Wire, Hill Street Blues, M*A*S*H, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Sopranos territory.
And yes, it belongs in that pantheon, no doubt.
Costumes, set decoration, cinematography, screenwriting/dialogue, acting, overall 'robustness/heft' is all there.
