Mahershala Ali (Juan), Janelle Monáe (Teresa), and Naomie Harris (Paula) are particularly spectacular, and the film's tagline, "This is the story of a lifetime," is truth in advertising.
Though, to be even more precise, it's the story of identity and connection and, in no small way, the place of role models, be they gifts or curses.
It's a heartbreaking film, supremely acted.
"At some point, you gotta decide for yourself who you're going to be. Can't let nobody make that decision for you."
