It's not terrible. In fact, it's rather entertaining.
Despite a tried hand (Roland Emmerich) steering the ship, it does have this Oh my gosh I have so much money to spend on this film and I'm going to spend it all making everything bigger, badder, louder, and more outrageous!
So yeah, there's that.
And tons of nonsensical Lexus product placement!
And as is always the case with China-backed Hollywood productions, there are polite nods to Chinese culture, China's space program, and China's cooperation in trying to stop Earth's destruction.
But if you can look past the preposterousness, obnoxiousness, and heavy-handedness, well, you just might find yourself scratching the bottom of your popcorn box and wondering where the time went.
