Never (in all my days) have I heard the story of "the 15th century Czech icon and warlord Jan Žižka, who defeated armies of the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire."
But Ben Foster is (as usual elsewhere) equally triumphant here—in what feels (and I apologize for this bastardized oversimplification) like the Czech Republic's Braveheart.
The film begins with nine production companies' logos, which is always a bad sign, and also has some weird audio overdubs where folks lips' are not synchronized with what's being said or heard, but the film overcomes it all, like its hero, and the soundtrack soars.
The ending is rather awesome, and I left weeping.
Medieval also features Michael Caine, Matthew Goode, and Sophie Lowe.
