Don't believe the hype; no one I've spoken to or heard from understands why this film racked up best picture wins at The New York Film Critics Circle Awards, the Los Angeles Film Critics Awards, the Golden Globes (for Best International Film), or is up for Best Picture at March 27th's Oscars.
To me, feels kinda like Moonlight besting La La Land: sentimental reasons, not the sort that survive much scrutiny after the fact.
Is it good? Sure. Is it interesting? Sure. Is it periodically intriguing, mysterious, and tinged with melancholic ethos? Sure. Does it have a rewarding ending? My lips are sealed.
But Best Picture? No way. Top 8 Best Picture? Still no way.
Watch it if you want, but don't carve out a special night to do so or waste a whole fire log on it; it ain't that good!
