Coulda, woulda, shoulda been SO fun and informative. Andrew McCarthy is so thoughtful; this had promise and I know he's been chasing the idea for at least two decades.
Instead, we only get about 60% of the gang back together—and what they have to say is quite trivial, superficial, guarded.
Strange how, even now, they: (1) Have such a difficult time owning how they were once labeled 35 years ago by some rando reporter; (2) Allow the "Brat Pack" moniker to overshadow who they've become and/or are now; (3) Allow the label to remain the tainted lens through which they see themselves, even in retrospect; and (4) Continue to blame the gap between their careers' potentiality and actuality on the name.
Yep, a real shame.
Andrew's a journalist, but the doc really required a therapist.
And while Malcolm Gladwell usually has keen insights, here he offers us very little to make sense of it all.
