A cautionary tale wrapped in the trappings of old Hollywood that proves tinseltown is, in large part (and for many) a thinly-veiled Greek tragedy.
Damien Chazelle continues to prove his moviemaking chops, but the story itself is just plain old sad. Heart-wrenching, I'd say.

I left feeling mostly sorry for everyone involved, HOWEVER, since Chazelle was OUTRIGHT ROBBED when Moonlight beat out 2016's La La Land for Best Picture, I won't complain if Babylon takes top prize at this year's Academy Awards.
It's a dark horse, for sure, but just because it's melancholia doesn't mean it's not meritorious.
