Visually stunning, a transfixing soundtrack (think nearly two hours' worth of Tangerine Dream's melodic hit Love On A Real Train from 1984's Risky Business), a story that is equally enormous (like Blade Runner) and intimate (like Ex Machina), and emotionally well-told.
I loved it, found it nothing short of hypnotizing, and tip my hat to graphic-artist-turned-writer-and-director Gavin Rothery. First time at bat and he knocked the cover off the ball. Impressive!
In my book, he’s nothing less than an artiste extraordinaire.
Here’s hoping he gets another swing at bat after all this COVID crap passes, so he can round the bases properly.
As it was, he missed SXSW 2020 entirely and his tiny Hungarian production played on 260 screens in Russia, earning a paltry $139,000. Heartbreaking.
He—and everyone involved here—deserves W A Y more, including exposure, recognition, and future opportunity.
