Clever 'historical fiction' set-up, interesting story, promising cast... and while Act I is pretty dang entertaining—as are the final few minutes—the middle 60% or so is just flat-out boring.
I'm also beginning to wonder whether John David Washington, Denzel's son, has the chops to make it in this business. He was quite good in BlacKkKlansman, but Beckett, Malcolm & Marie, The Old Man & the Gun, Monsters and Men, Tenet, and now Amsterdam... not so much.
Here's hoping.
