A SERIES OF GIFTS — A FEW WORDS ABOUT DAREN MARTIN, PHD

Today's gift is a bonus. I do hope you enjoy experiencing it as much as I did recording it.

A dear mentor once said, "If you want to make someone's day, call them by their name."
At the time, some 30 years ago now, it didn't really mean that much to me, after all, anytime I heard my name (especially my full name), it usually meant I was in trouble and being summoned for punishment!
But now, halfway into my 50s, I understand, and he was right, of course. He was always right.
It means a lot to people to be called by their name. It means you see them, recognize them, know them. In today's world (which is often a cacophony), calling someone by their name can cut through all that noise and make 'em feel alive.
To that end—and in part because there's not much extrinsically to be given to most of my friends that would mean all that much—I do whatever I can as often as I can intrinsically.
To do so is Biblical, and, of course, He is always right. A favorite scripture of my late father-in-law was:
"The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." (Zephaniah 3:17)
I love that verse too, so today I'll follow two fathers' great example and sing the praises of a third...
In today's GIFT #26, I'll make a moment to reflect on my friendship with Dr. Daren Martin over the past couple decades and share both my professional and personal insights into his character and integrity.
